In several parts of the world, censorship of the Internet exists. AnchorFree, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service provider, furnishes a method of circumventing government restrictions while creating a more secure means of accessing the Internet.
A VPN abstracts an additional layer of authentication around an unsecured network.
All your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or government can see is that you have connected to the service, and sites like Facebook can only see who you are by the information you have entered into the site. If you do not log onto a site with personal information, then the site has no means of identifying you, says David Gorodyansky, CEO of AnchorFree.
The company is seeing increased usage in countries like China, according to Gorodyansky.
“We have about a million people in China bypass government censorship and get onto the free web,” says Gorodyansky.
The AnchorFree Web site has been blocked in China, however, that has not stopped loyal customers from emailing the software to friends and spreading access.
The company’s success comes from how difficult the product is to block, “Our architecture is very sophisticated; we’ve built it in a way where it is extremely hard to block our services. We have servers all over the place,” said Gorodyansky.
Whether you are trying to get around government censorship or just keep IT from knowing you are playing Farmville during company time, AnchorFree provides a secure means of connecting to the Internet.
